Reflections on Burns

No man can tether time nor tide and it’s Burns time again and would some power the giftie gie us to see ourselves as others see us.
First there is his comment about politicians – such a parcel of rogues in a nation.
Then there is, surprising to many – Be Britain still to Britain true, Amang oursel’s united.
An income tax return – Among his assets – An auld wheelbarrow, mair for token, One leg and both the trams are broken.
When was this written? Today? When quacks of state must each produce his plan, and even children lisp the rights of man – the rights of women merit some attention.
On the church gathering – some were fu’ o’ love divine and some were fu’ o’ brandy.
To finish, something serious – O though who are so good yoursel’, so pious and so holy, ye’ve naught to do but mark and tell, your neighbour’s faults and folly. We’ll of course, that’s not us, is it?
