A book in the genre of Last of the Summer Wine. Full of characters you want to spend time with.
John Brown, better known as Broon in his home village of Cairndhu, wants to keep the village flower show out of the clutches of the major seed company Cedeco but isn’t sure how. His old teacher, Miss Kirkwood, takes him but the hand, or is it scruff of the neck, and shows him how. All Broon really wants is to grow chrysanthemums good enough to beat Gillespie at the flower show, but Gillespie bribes judges with legs of lamb and fillet steaks. To add to his troubles, his daughter, Ger, seems to have feelings for Gillespie’s son and his wife Maisie isn’t discouraging that.
