Aberdeen we lived in for several years. It was before the oil rigs and it was a pleasant city, much like Largs, or Cape Town or Perth in Australia. Anyway, what I wanted to tell about was my friend John, whose wife had admonished him about his waistline growing. If you’re going to Aberdeen, be warned, those rolls are great, but deadly to the figure. On Saturday, John took one of those early diet pills that didn’t suppress your appetite but made you hyperactive. He started work at seven and by four in the afternoon he was running round looking for nails to hammer in or boxes to lift. By ten he was in bed and slept till Sunday afternoon, by which time he was starving.
