Second Sight

Do we have some kind of super-memory in our subconscious or do we connect with some kind of universal memory that makes us choose some things in a way that will affect what we do in future?

I’m asking this because I agonised over what name to use for Mrs Boniface in the Oakhaven stories and settled on Boniface rather than Baxter or Bletherington or some other concoction and have had it hinted she might be a German spy only to find Boniface is the Patron Saint of Germany. The, in Drover, to add a bit of spice, I slipped in someone making whisky in 1820 and found that in 1823 the system of taxing whisk was changed from a heavy duty to a licence and a small duty per gallon on the product, which apparently induced most of the illicit distillers to register.

All I need is for the issue of child soldiers or blood diamonds to be raised again and I’ll be convinced we really do have a measure of second sight – Irish Granny Clarke swore by it, of course.
