Shadows in the Veldt

Shadows in the Veld is the seventh book to be published and follows on from King or Kaiser and the story of how the South Africans helped the Royal Navy in 1914at the start of WW1. By then Churchill and Smuts, the ex-Boer general had become friendly as had Kitchener and Louis Botha, despite Kitchener burning of the farms and taking the women and children of guerrilla fighters into concentration camps, where the died of measles in thousands,.
The agreement to help the ‘English’ started a civil war in South Africa and like both the American Civil war and the English Civil War it split families, especially where views were strong.
The fighting moved across the country like a modern day safari from desert war with leaders as astute as Rommel, to thick bushveldt more like the Chindits in Burma than the Flanders’ trenches.
When General de Wet took up arms after being fined five shillings, Smuts, as aware of spin as a modern politician, named it the Five Shilling Rebellion.
