Invisible Man

After my wife died I joined a book club, which had six females and me. I’ve discovered several things. As a man you are either top dog or the invisible man in those circumstances. I’ve had that invisible man experience before – in shops where you stand with what you want while the assistants at the till talk among themselves and One wonders if H. G. Wells, or whoever it was that wrote about The Invisible Man was inspired by a similar experience. I know Baroness ‘What’s-her-name’ was inspired to write the Scarlet Pimpernel, that book about the chap the French Revolution ‘sought here and there and everywhere’ was inspired to write it while buying a ticket for the London Underground. Is it possible that the inspiration for the Bourne Identity was joining a book club and becoming the invisible man?
