While waiting for Vital Spark to appear, I have been busy with the follow-up to Oakhaven. Why? Because I enjoy Mrs Boniface’s company. In some ways it’s people like her who mark the boundaries of what is socially acceptable. We may laugh at her but we watch our P’ and Q’s when she is around; she’s our social conscience you might say. She might look askance at Scotsmen and foreigners but would never be rude, never ever – snooty, yes, but never actually rude. As Mrs Jackson from Oakhaven said, she’s part of the community, after all.
