Remembrance Day

I’ve told people how I came to learn of the Five Shilling Rebellion and write both King or Kaiser and Shadows in the Veldt but I want to continue until the creation of the Cape Corps from men of mixed race in the Cape Colony. One of them, a chap called Davids was at Tobruk in WW2. I’ve searched for them in the literature but they’re ignored and it upsets me. I found out about him from his daughter in Pniel in the Dwars River Valley near Cape Town. She told me that despite comments from his family her father used to dress, with his medals and go to the parade on Remebrance Day. It was during apartheid and he wasn’t allowed to march but he saluted as the parade marched past, insisting he had to honour his old comrades.
