McPherson, Moidart, Australia, Drover – How Mary McPherson got to Australia was a story in itself. Her husband was a ship’s captain but there were few jobs in the depression and he was working as a travelling salesman. Frustrated, he dropped into a pub for a drink, whether her father’s or not I don’t know. In the pub he met a man looking for someone to take a ship through the Suez canal and mentioned he had a Suez ticket. He went all the way to Australia, found a post as a captain and sent for Mary.
